Horses have been a great part of my life since the age of 4. I’ve been lucky enough to have my own ponies which I used to regularly compete and take part in pony club events. Once I left school I went to Sparsholt College to study Equine Management Level 3 Extended Diploma where I also joined their Dressage Academy and obtained my BHS Stage 1&2. I now own my own horse Ozzie, he’s a coloured Irish X. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with arthritis from the age of 5 but he now enjoys a happy life having fun and hacking.

I learnt to ride aged 5 and have been passionate about horses and all things equestrian ever since. I bought my first horse, Toby, when I was 18 and had years of fun with him. Toby was with me from age 2 until he passed away aged 35. He was a huge character and a rosette winning machine! My girls rode him as Children and he was adored by many. I now have Paddy, who used to compete with my daughter Jess, but now needs a quieter life. Since opening Equitogs in 1988, we have poured passion, hard work and dedication into the business and I am very proud of all that we have achieved over the years. There is lots more to come though and with our daughters on board, I am sure we will continue to grow from strength to strength.

Horses have been a passion of mine for a long time. I learnt to ride at the age of 5, but didn’t get my own horse until I was 19. After meeting my wife Gaynor, I was looking for a new challenge in life and we decided to take a risk by opening our own equestrian store. Our mission has always been to provide the very best for our customers that the equestrian market has to offer. We love to find exclusive, innovative and technologically advanced products. The business has been open for almost 30 years now and I am immensely proud of everything we have achieved in that time and still have the drive to keep on developing and improving the services we are able to offer our customers. This is a family run business which we all dedicate our passion and hard work to and with our daughters on board along with a dedicated team, I hope we will continue to be successful in the future.

I learnt to ride at a very young age and had lots of fun doing pony club activities at the local riding school. Although I’m still very fond of horses, I fell out of love with riding at about the age of 15. I still enjoy spending time around horses and like to support my sister Jess with her equestrian pursuits! I love country lifestyle and fashion in general, which works out well for me as I’m in charge of ordering all the products! I beaver away in the background of the office, so you won’t really see me much on the shop floor. I really enjoy working for the family business, we all make a great team & work well together.

I grew up in South Africa where my grandfather had a horse farm. My Saturdays were spent giving pony rides at local church fairs. I moved to the UK and met my wife, Tracey, who is very horsey! We bought a livery yard 15 years ago, where I do all the fencing and yard maintenance etc… Both my wife and daughter compete in dressage and working equitation. They have competed for the senior and junior British teams respectively. My passion is racing motorcycles, which I have been building since 2002. I regularly race my bikes and have won several national championships. I also restore classic cars at home. At Equitogs, I make all the feed deliveries and I am responsible for Equi-Trek servicing and mechanical repairs

I learnt to ride before I could walk at my Auntie’s riding school and was lucky enough to have access to lots of ponies to ride and take to pony club. I gained experience as I got older from riding lots of project ponies bought from the New Forest sales to get them ready to go into the riding school. I currently own a 15.2hh Irish Sports Horse called George, who I mainly show jump. George has previously show jumped for Ireland in his younger days.

I’ve ridden since I was 10 years old, and have had my own horse since my teens. I had a fun Pony Club horse, Ziggy, who showed me the ropes and helped me fall in love with eventing. I now own a 7 year old called Dillon, who I’m currently evening. I brought him as a youngster from Ireland.

I have been riding since the age of 6 and have competed in all disciplines but found a love for eventing. I currently have five horses that have competed in british eventing but now mainly hunt throughout the winter. I have worked on an eventing yard where I was lucky enough to travel around the country following the horses I cared for, while picking up some rides. I previously worked for Musto as a sales assistant where I obtained my GORE-TEX® advanced level qualifications.

JESS

Rachel, our store manager, taught me to ride and I had lots of fun with my first pony, Mooney, doing Pony Club camp. I had a fab 5 years competing my first horse Paddy, who is now enjoying a quieter life with my mum. I then progressed to my current horse Hero and we have had success at BE100 level qualifying for Badminton Grass Roots in 2017. Sadly, injury prevented us from competing there, but now we are on the road to recovery and I hope to reach BE* level in the future.

I have been riding since I was 7 years old and was lucky enough to be a member of the Mid Surrey Pony Club as a child/teenager. I have obtained my BHS Stage 1, 2 & 3 certificates but have yet to take my instructors exams. In recent years I have concentrated mainly on showing and have qualified for the TGCA’s Traditional of the Year show, three years running with my young cob Esme, who is very sadly no longer with us. I love working with young horses and I now have a coloured native called Lily, who I will back in Spring 2018. She will eventually be aimed at RIHS and possibly HOYS, as well as some riding club all round competition as she matures. I also have two children, Neve and Oliver who are starting to learn to ride and I hope to have lots of horsey fun as a family!

RACHEL

STORE MANAGER

I started riding at the age of 6 and since then horses have been my career, hobby and passion. I have previously worked with many top-class competition horses across the industry as a professional groom/rider and have two of my own horses called Ferdi and George who both excel in eventing. Ferdi has been competing at intermediate / 2* and George started his eventing career in 2017 with a promising future ahead of him. I hold my BHS stage 3, NVQ in customer service and love the technical side of equestrian related products!

After leaving school at the age of 16, I started studying Equine Management in the form of a national diploma at Plumpton College and then went on to graduate with a BSc (hons) in Equine Management (Science) in 2012. I have worked in the horse feed retail sector since then, finding a passion for equine nutrition. My own horse, Pip, is a very opinionated chestnut dutch warmblood mare who I have owned for over 11 years. We have competed across many disciplines but she is now enjoying a happy retirement.
