Musto Must Haves
Musto is a brand that is as synonymous with equestrianism and country life as jelly is with ice-cream or Christmas is with Baileys! Mmmmmmm………Bailey’s and ice-cream………oops, sorry about that, got distracted there for a moment.
We have fallen in love with this year’s Musto autumn/winter collection. Here are our top five picks for ladies Musto essentials and tips on how to layer up effectively this winter:
The Burnham Jacket
This jacket is one of our favourite pieces from Musto this season. To be honest, you can never have enough jackets, but this one has gone straight to the top of our list of wants.
It features the BR1 fabric, making it both waterproof and breathable, safeguarding you in persistent rain. It has a fully adjustable, removable hood, and zipped handwarmer chest pockets – handy for keeping your hands warm on a cold day’s shooting or standing around at a winter show.
The BR1 is Musto’s own technical fabric. They test how waterproof a material is by using a hydrostatic water-head. It is measured by pulling BR1 fabric tightly over a tube which is then filled with water. The amount of water that leaks thought the fabric after 24h is measured. It’s from these results they decide how waterproof the material is.
So, if you are looking for a smart jacket that doesn’t feel bulky this Autumn/Winter look no further. It will go hand in hand with jeans and a nice pair of Le Chameau wellies, you can even finish it off with a Fedora hat from Hicks & Brown.
The Grasmere jacket comes a close second favourite for us. We particularly like this because of the attention to detail and our third pick goes beautifully with it.
This jacket just oozes with style. It’s made from 100% cotton canvas oil cloth, offering natural weather resistance, durability and abrasion resistance – it gets better with age! The stylish cut and the smart brass trim, sets this jacket apart from the others. Its suitable to wear in the country, around the town even in the saddle, so just about anywhere. The detachable inner gilet adds warmth for those colder days but can also be removed if we get a warm day here or there. The canvas oil cloth fabric gives a refined worn look over time and will not date any time soon.
It’s a highly versatile jacket that goes perfectly with the Astley/Leigh roll neck knit from Musto.
Astley Roll Neck Knit
One of our favourite things about autumn and winter is wrapping up, all snuggly and warm! How better to do that than with a stylish, chunky roll neck knit. The Astley roll neck is beautiful, stylish, and warm – you will not want to take it off!
It combines style with complete comfort, made from soft cotton and premium merino wool. The merino wool helps to regulate your body temperature whilst the cotton adds durability, you get the best of both worlds. The chunky cable knit features deep ribbing for an enhanced elegant look. We stock this is two gorgeous colours; Damson and Dark Spruce.
Glemsford Polartec® Fleece Gilet
The Glemsford Gilet is something that you would wear on pretty much a daily basis. I like to use it to layer up or, on the warmer days, have it over a shirt.
It’s made from a lightweight 200g advanced Polartec® fabric. It is highly breathable, fast drying, and warm. What makes this gilet one of my must have is the attention to detail of the snug high collar and draw cord hem to reduce wind chill. The LYCRA® binding around the armholes finish this gilet off to enhance the comfort.
Polartec® is a great fabric that we particularly like. It’s a soft, breathable fabric that delivers excellent warmth without the weight. The high loft fibres trap warm air for effective insulation. The hydrophobic Polartec® fibres repel water for a quicker drying time to ensure the best warmth and comfort.
Cross Country Top
Layering up in winter doesn’t mean you have to wear every item you have in your wardrobe! The 3-layer system from Musto is a handy way to keep warm, without ending up feeling like a human cloak room. It consists of the base layer, middle layer, and a waterproof, breathable outer layer.
Musto’s cross-country top can work really well as a base layer. It is designed with comfort in mind with stretch and durability for freedom of movement, so you can perform in and out of the saddle. The wicking, fast-drying material gives superior comfort whilst the extra-long front zip, scooped hem, long body and sleeve ensures effortless wear.
What many people don’t know is that the base layer is the most crucial part of your outfit. It will keep you warm in the cold and ensure breathability for comfort during high intensity activity. Using the 3-layer system will reduce bulk and make you feel a lot more comfortable throughout the winter months.
